Partnering with Boulder Spirit: Our Investment Process
Transforming Lives, Together
The Boulder Spirit Foundation is more than a grant-making organization. We are a board of trustees curating the heritage and legacy of the former Camp on the Boulder. Our mission is to invest in and facilitate innovative approaches to disciple-making among youth, young adults, and their families.
We define a disciple as "someone whose life is being transformed by the love of God the creator, through the power of the Holy Spirit, and by following the way of Jesus Christ."
If you have an experimental idea, a new ministry, or a project that reaches people with the love of Jesus Christ in innovative ways—particularly within Montana, Northern Wyoming, and beyond—we want to hear from you.
What We Look For
We prioritize projects that are spiritually grounded, innovative (including those with an element of risk), and led by individuals with a deep affinity for their target audience. We provide a continuum of support, including:
- Financial Grants
- Organizational Coaching
- Logistical Support
- Strategic Partnership
The Pitch Process
We utilize a "Pitch Model" to identify and vet new investments. Here is what you can expect:
1. The Preparation
Before meeting with our board, we ask all potential partners to consider three foundational questions:
- What is your "product" and your background? Tell us about your views on faith, family, and community.
- How does your vision align with our mission? How will this project facilitate disciple-making among youth and families?
- How is this relevant in today’s culture? Why is this ministry needed right now?
2. The Interview
Pitches are conducted digitally via Zoom. This is a roundtable conversation where you will share your vision, and our board will ask 8–10 clarifying questions regarding your faith journey, your five-year plan, your funding model, and how you intend to equip the local church.
3. The Evaluation
Following the pitch, our board evaluates the proposal based on our Evaluation Framework, which scores projects on:
- Mission alignment and spiritual grounding.
- Innovation and "calculated risk."
- Clarity of the target audience.
- Availability of resources and the "giftedness" of the leaders.
4. The Partnership
By entering into an agreement with the Boulder Spirit Foundation, you join a collaborative ecosystem. We operate on a Consensus Model, meaning the Foundation serves as a fully operating advisory board for the people and projects we join in partnership. We don’t just fund projects; we walk alongside them.
